Question 1

What kind of events does Kavishala host?

Accepted Answer

Kavishala runs live literary and performance events across India — open mic nights, kavi sammelan, mushaira, shayari evenings, storytelling and dastangoi shows, independent theatre, comedy open mics, book launches and writing workshops. Everything on the site is a real, dated event you can book a seat at.

Question 2

How do I find an open mic or poetry event near me?

Accepted Answer

Pick your city from the city selector or the city directory and the listings filter to events near you. You can also browse by format — open mic, kavi sammelan, storytelling, theatre — and then narrow to your city from there.

Question 3

Can I perform at a Kavishala event?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Most open mics and many shows sell performer slots alongside audience tickets. Choose the performer ticket when you register and you will get stage time. There is no audition and no requirement to have performed before.

Question 4

How much do tickets cost?

Accepted Answer

It varies by event and city, and the exact price is shown on every listing before you pay. Community meetups and several book readings are free; ticketed shows and kavi sammelans are priced per venue. Performer slots usually cost a little more than audience entry.

Question 5

There are no events in my city. What can I do?

Accepted Answer

Submit a meetup request with your city. Most Kavishala city chapters began with a handful of people asking for one, and we notify everyone who requested as soon as a date is announced.

Question 6

In which languages are the events held?

Accepted Answer

Hindi, English and Urdu are the most common, with regional languages at many city events. A single open mic regularly hears all three. Each event page lists the languages you can expect.
